Daylight Savings Time Updates for Windows Computers
For Win XP:
First determine if the workstaion has already been updated:
*Note: Running the update again will not adversely affect the system.
- Go to Control Panel, then open Add/Remove Programs.
- Be sure the checkbox for "Show Updates" is checked (located in the upper portion of the window).
- Scroll to the bottom of the list, Look for "Update for Windows XP (KB931836)", Installed near the middle of Feb.
If this update is not present:
- Go to http://it.vermontlaw.edu/dst/
- Double click this file: WindowsXP-KB931836-x86-ENU.TZ-Fix.exe
If the system does not have Service Pack 2, you will get an error. Follow the procedure for Win2K.
For Win2K:
There is no hotfix available. The Time Zone info must be updated manually:
- Go to http://it.vermontlaw.edu/dst/tzedit-W2K/
- Double click tzedit.exe
- Select (GMT-5:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
- Click the Edit button.
- Change Start Day to: Second Sunday of March at 2:00 AM
- Change Last Day to: First Sunday of November at 2:00 AM
The Windows system is now updated for Daylight Savings Time.
