Daylight Savings Time Updates for Windows Computers

For Win XP:

First determine if the workstaion has already been updated:
   *Note: Running the update again will not adversely affect the system.
  1. Go to Control Panel, then open Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Be sure the checkbox for "Show Updates" is checked (located in the upper portion of the window).
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the list, Look for "Update for Windows XP (KB931836)", Installed near the middle of Feb.
If this update is not present:
  1. Go to http://it.vermontlaw.edu/dst/
  2. Double click this file: WindowsXP-KB931836-x86-ENU.TZ-Fix.exe
If the system does not have Service Pack 2, you will get an error. Follow the procedure for Win2K.


For Win2K:

There is no hotfix available. The Time Zone info must be updated manually:
  1. Go to http://it.vermontlaw.edu/dst/tzedit-W2K/
  2. Double click tzedit.exe
  3. Select (GMT-5:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)
  4. Click the Edit button.
  5. Change Start Day to: Second Sunday of March at 2:00 AM
  6. Change Last Day to: First Sunday of November at 2:00 AM
The Windows system is now updated for Daylight Savings Time.
